Doodling is cool…

Just got a mention in the latest ‘spotted’ section of DoodleArts Magazine - the only web publication dedicated to the art of doodling - brought to you by Doodle Art Enthusiasts, the Philippines’ biggest doodle community. Yeah!

VIVA Brighton Magazine.

Cover illustration and typography for the April edition of VIVA magazine. The theme of the issue was ‘Land’, featuring content about growth and new life. They wanted a colourful and vibrant cover with a nod to Brighton and the theme, so a ‘land octopus’ gardening in Brighton seemed about right.

ReadingWise

I’ve been working with ReadingWise on the redesign of their newly revised literacy learning web application. The brief was to create a smart, simple and user friendly interface and appearance. Here are a few screenshots of the user interface and other elements from the site.

A fun illustration that I created of the Twisted Chip van for use on their website and for promotional use.

I also produced the accompanying illustrated web icons for thetwistedchipcompany.co.uk

The Yoga Cake

Sophie at Ditchling Yoga wanted a clean, simple and easily accessible look for a starter kit she was producing to encourage newcomers to take up the practice of yoga.

Alongside the illustrated branding and design, I drew a series of stylised stick figures illustrating a short beginners yoga lesson in the format of a simple booklet

‘The Yoga Cake’ can be ordered direct from Ditchling Yoga.

What’s MrDoodle been up to?

Well… lots actually, but finding the time to share my artistic pursuits with the world often tends to elude me. So today is the day to upload - in no particular or chronological order - a bunch of recent, and not so recent creations. Everything from doodles to web design to wood carvings…

Here is my finished whale tail design, to be auctioned for charity as part of WhaleFest this weekend in Brighton.

56 artists were selected to create artwork on a steel tail sculpture, each representing one of the 56 orcas currently in captivity. My orca is called Keet. He lives in Seaworld, but would rather be swimming free in the ocean.

I took inspiration from traditional Pacific West Coast art; a homage to Keet’s genealogy being partly from the Penn Cove area off Washington state. Significant native american symbolism has also been woven into the design, with references to ‘happiness’, 'good’, 'fish’, 'sunshine’, 'ocean’, 'plenty’, 'freedom’ and Penn Cove all visible if you know what symbols to look for.

This will be available to bid for on ebay over the next few days with all proceeeds going to the World Cetacean Alliance charity.
Check it out here and get bidding ;) …. http://tinyurl.com/pz5w5yx

BOOM!! Monster cut-out number 1
The first of many 3D wooden painted cut-out monsters I’ll be making over the next few months. See him and more to follow, gracing the walls of Wolff & Badger at the new Brighton Laines Market.

A selection of my Doodlefest postcards

Our (Roy Peterson, Tamara Fletcher and myself) Doodlefest event was a HUGE success! Hundreds of people came through the doors throughout the weekend and we had well over 600 artworks adorning the walls by the end of it all. A big thanks to all who supported us : )
